The Innovative Anesthesia leadership and management teams are comprised of highly qualified and experienced anesthesia, business and legal professionals with many years of clinical expertise.

Executive Leadership

Steve Schuster founded Innovative Anesthesia in 2008 with a vision to creating the leading provider of high quality, low cost anesthesia management services. As CEO and general counsel, he oversees all legal, risk management and compliance issues for the company. For more than 40 years, Steve has provided legal counsel to health care management companies, physicians, physician service organizations, ASCs, health insurers, IPAs, HMOs, hospitals and billing and collection companies.

Steve has built a strong reputation for understanding and constructing transactions in the health care industry that meet all of the regulatory concerns including fraud and abuse, taxation and health care financing. He is a former assistant U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia and served as a law clerk in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. Steve is a former member of the American Health Lawyers Association Board of Directors. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Vanderbilt University and J.D. from the Georgetown University Law Center.

Mike Mitchell is a founder and owner of Innovative Anesthesia. As chief financial officer, he is responsible for financial modeling, financial management of client anesthesia operations, payer contracting, credentialing and billing. Mike has more 30 years of experience in health care finance and holds a certification in managed care with the Healthcare Financial Management Association.

Mike is also the founder and CEO of a national medical billing company that provides a full range of revenue cycle management and billing services to physicians and other healthcare providers. Mike was previously a CFO for a multi-hospital system and an auditor for the Blue Cross and Blue Shield auditing hospital and nursing facilities for the Medicare program.

Mike earned a BS degree in accounting from the University of South Carolina. He has completed numerous graduate courses in business and financial management, federal income taxation, and information systems management.

Management

Shannon Weaver joined Innovative Anesthesia in 2008 as director of operations where she is responsible for the operational and managerial oversight of the anesthesia and pain management practices.

Shannon previously worked for a national corporation that provides strategic and M&A advice to leaders in the medical technology and health sectors. She was responsible for helping gastrointestinal endoscopy centers in North Carolina acquire their Certificate of Need and Medicare Applications.

Shannon graduated from Lenoir-Rhyne College with a bachelor’s degree in accounting.

Pamela Phillips joined Innovative Anesthesia as a credentialing manager in 2011. She is responsible for ensuring compliance with regulatory and accreditation guidelines, rules, and requirements for physician and credentialed practitioners.

She is a First Honor Graduate with a bachelor’s degree in education from Lenoir Rhyne College.

Lisa joined Innovative Anesthesia Management as a Staff Accountant, and now serving as Controller.  Originally from New England, she gained her B.S. in Accountancy degree from Bentley College, and completed continuing education courses at Providence College.  Lisa worked for The McDonald’s Corporation for over 10 years – as an A/P Supervisor, Field Accountant and Regional Accounting Supervisor.  Lisa was responsible for the financial reporting of over 100 company owned restaurants, working directly with Regional Management on meeting Regional and Corporate objectives.  During her time with McDonalds she was recognized for her field work with under-performing restaurants, providing guidance and training to assist them in financial improvement. She received “The McDonald’s Way” award for her work on improving processes within the system wide accounting organization.

In 1998, Lisa and her family moved to SC where she worked for the Litchfield Company Reserve Golf Course as an Accountant, and then as Accounting Manager with Burroughs & Chapin – South Beach Resort.  Since joining Innovative Anesthesia Management Lisa has used her expertise in process review, financial analysis, and her inner drive to learn from those around her to gain her knowledge in the healthcare field.
